[ Our story ]
Why this practice exists.
The Building Surgeon is the practice Zubayer Rahman and Jack Reesby set up when they realised the projects they were most proud of shared a specific pattern - direct engineer-to-client relationships, no intermediary layer.
Between them they've delivered MEP scope on commercial towers, mission-critical facilities, retail flagships, multi-residential developments and heritage retrofits across Melbourne. The pattern that shows up in the best of those projects isn't a specific technology or delivery method - it's the shortness of the loop between the person making a design decision and the person paying for it.
So this is a practice designed around that loop. Two principals, seven service lines, and a named lead accountable for every scope. That's it.

The best design is the one that gets built and works in year five. We resist the temptation to specify complexity for its own sake.
